USACA has opened up an application process for the positions of U-19 Team Manager and Team Physiotherapist for the USA U-19 team's tour to Canada for the 2013 ICC Americas U-19 Division One tournament which is scheduled to be played from July 7-14 in Toronto.

In a departure from previous appointments for team management positions on tours for ICC tournaments, USACA has opened up an application process for the positions of U-19 Team Manager and Team Physiotherapist for the USA U-19 team’s tour to Canada for the 2013 ICC Americas U-19 Division One tournament which is scheduled to be played from July 7-14 in Toronto.
Wesley King, president of the American Cricket League in the New York Region, had been serving as the Team Manager of the USA U-19 team since 2009 and had also served as a USA Team Manager on USA U-15 tours prior to 2009. Since 2011, USACA has had eight people serve as a Team Manager or tour for junior, women’s or men’s cricket: Imran Khan, Arun Vittala, Wesley King, Ajay Athavale, Louise Browne-Jackson, Shoaib Ahmed, Jacqueline Frank and Shelton Glasgow. The call for an applicant for the position of a tour manager is a departure from previous USACA protocol when assignments were handed out without any job requirements listed or application process observed.
The same goes for the position of Team Physio. Masood Akhtar “Chik” Syed, is believed to have been appointed to serve as the Team Physio on USA tours for more than 25 years according to current and former players. Syed, an Illinois resident, is listed as a “Physical Therapist’s Assistant” according to the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation database of licensed practitioners. According to guidelines listed on the Illinois Physical Therapy Association web site, PTAs are only allowed to perform tasks under the supervision of a fully licensed Physical Therapist.
USACA’s job listing for the Team Physio states that in order to be selected to be the Team Physio for the USA U-19 team, candidates must be registered or certified to work as a physiotherapist in the United States. The Team Manager job listing also lists multiple criteria in order to be considered which includes three to five years of management experience and preferably someone with experience in business administration or finance.
According to the job listings, the positions are temporary placements on a volunteer basis with meals and expenses during the tour paid for by USACA. The USACA web site states that applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 31.
