1) india is expected to win against a lowly ranked team

2) india is not expected to win abroad

3) indian hype is expected to be burst

4) indian hype is to continue....\

Pundits and all can grab one thread and sing yarns and yarns of cricketing "panditry" ...

Somehow it warmed my heart seeing mccullum's fight back, ryder and verttori's tonne and left me a distaste that bhajji got 6.....Reading richardson's articles seems to show that kiwi board has bent a tad too backward to make the hosts comfortable....

I just found it a bit too simplistic for so many people to just come out and uni-dimensionally criticize the pitch and the groundsmen. Of course, they are both sitting ducks! But what about talent of the bowlers? Like you say, maybe it has got something to do with the grass-roots development. I live in the USA and I still see coaches here ... coaching 1st generation kids here ... and mostly it is batting!!! Of course, these coaches themselves are ex-pats from Test nations. I am going to track USA cricket and its development closely to see what effects various choices at the grass roots level will have on the development of the sport itself.

What a nuanced sport we have here ... just love it!

tis a pity online sources dont archive the 60s and 70s and earlier tours. i wonder what was the media hype when hte original fab 4 went to nz

also, tis interesting that the only series we won, in a seamer friendly nation was using our fab 4 spinners....what wud have been the pun line there?

Tiger unleashes turban and nets onto kiwis? (sic!!!(

Many opinions are expressed on selection when a team does poorly, it is not often that pages (electronic or otherwise) are devoted to selection issues during times of what The Hindu calls "plenty". So kudos for that.

But like a good friend said to me earlier today, these selection choices seem to be quite revisionist within the context of the zonal selection tendencies.

The ONLY thing hiding what is essentially the age-old nepotism and quota-culture in the selection room (is there even one?) is the performance of the team itself.

So much for the presumption paid selectors amounting to accountability ... unless accountability means ability to inflate bank accounts!

It's not teams or infrastructures and such, excepting obvious problem countries like Zimbabwe.

Australia have lost their dominance because most of their great players have retired. India's great middle-order batsmen have yet to to do so. (And their young bowlers happen to be doing well at the moment.)
