Cricket gains acceptance in Arizona

The Arizona Republic noted that cricket is gaining acceptance in the Casa Grande valley.   Check this out:

The game is slowly gaining acceptance. Two cities recently built cricket fields: Chandler's Snedigar Sportsplex and Gilbert's Nichols Park.

And several parks and schools let teams use their grounds and provide storage space for a large mat, which the players roll out before each game to flatten the grass for the pitch.

One of those schools is Desert Sage Elementary School in Glendale.

Maridell David, plant foreman, remembers when the cricket players contacted her three years ago and asked if they could use the school grounds.

"I had heard of cricket, but I was not sure what it entailed," David said. "But I thought, 'How cool is this?'"

Yes, it has and slowly it will gain more. With 12 teams to around 20 teams in just about 3 years, says a lot about the rise of the game in the past. Hopefully it will go on like this.

However the growth is not just about the number of teams, but it should also be in terms of the quality of cricket that is being player. Quality might have improved in terms of players and competition, but it is yet to see significant changes, infrastructure wise.
