On a gloomy and overcast day, Amir Rafique of Dynamic Cricket Club scored 208 not out in a New Jersey State Cricket Umpires Association T20 match held at Wilmington, DE against AIM Cricket Club on Sunday, September 26.

T20 match - 50 more than Brendan McCullum's record of 158 not out. In
T20 internationals, Gayle holds the record with 117.
After
winning the toss Dynamic Cricket Club opted to bat. Amir who also
happens to be the captain of the team opened the batting with Waqas
Shahid. The opening pair put on super quick fire 100 runs in the first
eight overs; however, the next twelve overs saw some unprecedented
hitting that would have given Sehwags and Afridis of the Atlantic
Region some stiff competition. 200+ plus runs were plundered. The
opposition bowlers tried all the tricks up their sleeves but couldn’t
stop Amir in clearing the boundaries effortlessly.
No Mongoose
was used, no special golf ball in the gloves, no substitute runners.
Instead, the traditional willow along with some classical straight
hitting saw Amir reach hundred within 12 overs.
However,
his next 100 runs within the remaining overs saw some sublime cuts,
brutal pulls and exemplary straight lofted drives. The opposition
thought that a thunderbolt had struck them as spin, fast and
part-timers were all put to the cleaners, bludgeoned and bulldozed.
Vinamra Kumar of Dynamic Cricket Club said that Amir’s double century
was a remarkable achievement as scoring even a century in a T20
requires sheer force along with a good amount of luck. "It was a
ferocious assault that will be remembered for a long time," Vinamra said.
Dynamic’s
innings ended at 315 for 2 with Amir contributing two thirds of the
runs scored. 315/2 in a T20 game must itself be a record of sorts but
the sheer magic of Amir’s innings overshadowed the proceedings.
Everyone on the ground including all the players and spectators
graciously acknowledged the effort. At the end of the game, Amir said
“It was just my day and lady luck was on my side.”
AIM in reply
tried to make a match of it but the task was too tall. AIM bundled out
for 167, giving a comprehensive victory to Dynamic.
