The USA Cricket Association announced the results of the South West and North West Regional elections for Regional Representative positions.

Madhukar “Mark” Sood has been elected unopposed as the South West Region’s Representative.   Mark Sood served as the vice president of the Southern California Cricket Association (SCCA) for 8 years and was president of SCCA for two years.  Mr. Sood is a member of the Ventura Cricket Club in Los Angeles.

Ajay Athavale, President of California Cricket Association (CCA), was elected to represent the North West Region.  Mr. Athavale has been closely involved with youth cricket in the San Francisco Bay Area for some years now.

Besides his involvement with the CCA, Mr. Athavale played a key role in conducting the area's Inter School tournament in 2008 and is active in outreach efforts in his region.

USACA also apointed Michael Gale and Rafey Syed as interim vice presidents.  Michael Gale is the new interim First VP, a vacancy caused by the departure of Nabeel Ahmed.  Mr. Ahmed resigned from the board in November of 2010 citing 'disappointment with Dainty's leadership.'

Mr. Gale, who is a member of the Hill Country Cricket Association, is well known for his sponsorship of cricket and his involvement with the Inter-city tournament in Texas and in youth cricket activities in Central Texas.

Rafey Syed replaced Manaf Mohamed who vacated his position as 2nd VP to become USACA's General Manager.   Mr. Syed is the Secretary of the Central East Region where he was associated with the American Cricket Conference.

Mr. Syed was also part of the management of the team from the Central East Region that participated in Moin-ud-dowlah Tournament in Hyderabad.

USACA reported that both Mr. Gale and Mr. Syed expect to seek reelection once their terms end.   This should result in a keen contest for the position of First VP.   In separate interviews with ESPNCricinfo, Ganesh Sanap and Hemant Buch expressed their intention to run for the position of First VP.

shame that people continue to be afraid to put their names to their comments. Whine, or complain about the whining by all means - but if you can't put your name to your comments, why bother?

as far as the election(s) are concerned, all I can say is "utter joke". Political manipulations have of course won the day once again. As a defeated candidate, I am disappointed to be sure, but unfortunately not surprised. Once the final set of candidates in the NWR regional representative election was announced, the result was known to all. Several people advised me to withdraw, and it was amusing that out of three candidates, I was the only one who made an effort to reach out to the voters and let them know who I was and why I wanted to run. The others didn't have to because the votes had nothing to do with the individuals and everything to do with backroom dealing and collusion.

The system is a farce, and for my own part I'll focus on other things in life - things where some element of meritocracy and democracy exists, and those who can and want to make a difference are actually encouraged and supported without political machinations being involved.

Good luck to the NWR and USACA - I wish both organizations well, despite the continued issues. Sometimes success (albeit a qualified one) is possible despite all the vested interests at play.

And have you seen the jobs page - no mention of the CEO position, or any other vacancies that may be funded by the multi-million dollar commerical deal with CAH and help drive the development of the sport nationwide.  No, instead we have an advert for an ICC job that closed last March.

I think it sums everything up that the last place you should go for an update on the current situation of cricket in the USA is their own website.  In addition, the fact that there is apparently all thism oney available, and then news of a tournament being shortened due to funding issues. Dainty, you should be ashamed of yourself.

@ Info's Info

So was that the same General Manager who was appointed from within Dainty's inner circle and without the job ever being advertised?  The same General Manager who was appointed, and then afterwards Dainty told cricinfo that a CEO position would be advertised sometime after March?

So what has this highly skilled General Manager done so far then?  Surely the highlight must be the production of a document regarding what constitutes approved and disapproved cricket?  Well, sort of, except that it took me to email John Aaron shortly after its release to mention that the document actually classed all USACA events as disapproved because they hadn't been mentioned on the document - shortly afterwards there was an update that included those events!  Ok, forgive me.  Perhaps the GM's greatest achievement to date is the up to date information posted on the website. Ah, what about the ICC job that closed nearly 15 months ago.

Are you seriously telling me that cricket in the USA can develop with a paid staff of two?  There is a huge pot of money from CAH that is available for use - why couldn't that have gone towards the four-day competition that was cut to three because of financial issues?  How about recruiting a development manager in each region to provide resources to develop the game?  How about actually organising a professional t20 competition to encourage interest?

Don't go down the path of West Indies cricket, where they think they can do everything in house and on the cheap.  You need to recruit from outside - then you can see some real results
