USA Cricket: NWCL President writes scathing letter criticizing USACA's "sham" appeals process

The following is an email dated Thursday April 12 written by Northwest Cricket League President Faizan Janjua to USACA league presidents.

Respected Presidents and Cricket Enthusiasts,

I’m President of the Northwest Cricket League. When I took over in February, I had no first-hand knowledge about national cricket politics. I had heard about the unscrupulous Management and the dysfunctional state of USACA from different sources.

As you know USACA found 33 [sic, 32] out of 47 leagues affiliated with USACA as non-compliant to its constitution. This was done through a very questionable process conducted by Mr. Robert Chance. This was a wicked attempt to prevent these leagues from voting in the upcoming USACA elections.

Five of these “non-compliant” leagues filed appeals to contest the compliant process. To deal with these appeals USACA President tactfully handpicked a five-member Appeals Committee comprised of:

Faizan Janjua - Northwest Cricket League
Milton Taylor - South Florida Cricket Alliance
Milford Lewis - New York Cricket League
Masood Yunus - Minnesota Cricket Association
Sheldon Mollineau - New Jersey Cricket Association

Three of the five-member committee, Milton Taylor, Milford Lewis and Sheldon Mollineau are close cronies of Mr. Dainty. Mr Dainty knew that he had his “buddies” on the committee and no matter what, he would get his desired decisions. I think Masood and I were picked to make the process look legitimate.

I reluctantly accepted the responsibility thinking that this was my chance to help these leagues to be compliant. From the get-go the committee was given very little evidence/information to look at and only two days to conclude all appeals. At the request of Masood Yunus some additional time was given.

Looking at the whole bogus compliant process, I quickly realized that these leagues were found non-complaint for petty discrepancies and all the leagues had very strong and logical explanations/reasons.

Yesterday the committee had a meeting to present a final verdict. Mr. Yunus could not attend the meeting due to other engagements.

During the deliberation it was quite clear that the three gentlemen came with a pre-determined mind set to ignore all the evidence and wanted to rubber stamp Mr. Chance’s dubious findings. After going through the first two appeals, it was obvious for me, the direction in which all the decisions were going. It was very frustrating for me to see how these leagues were being cheated to be compliant. So I dropped out of the call early.

I sincerely apologize to cricket lovers in general and especially to the five leagues, that I was so naïve, that I was fooled into serving as a part of this sham committee. But this experience helped me to understand how USACA is controlling, manipulating and suppressing the development of cricket in US. I also believe that under Mr. Dainty’s leadership, cricket in this country will never flourish

I know there are many individuals/groups who are fighting against the current thug culture of USACA. We’ll only succeed if we consolidate our efforts to one platform instead of nitpicking against each other.

Faizan Janjua

It is sad to hear that the appeals process was a sham but not unexpected.  I agree with Mr. Faizan that unless leagues unite, US cricket is doomed.  For now, mainsteam Americans laugh at our mismanagement.  Soon they will just ignore us.

As Beeji said - sad to hear of the sham, but not surprised.

Thanks especially for Mr. Faizan for stepping up and publicly talking about this. His own league was already declared compliant - it would have been so easy for him to do what so many other good men in US cricket do - turn a blind eye and say nothing. Instead, with no self-interest at stake, he chose to speak out and reveal the truth. Would that there were more such league-presidents.

And he's exactly right in what he said - that those who oppose this must unite. Does anyone really want to pay USACA full-dues again, next month, after not being allowed to vote? (Especially leagues that pay $4000, $5000 and more, and get nothing, not even a vote, in return?)

FOD - exactly. Kudos to Faizan, and the Greater Atlanta league for both having the guts to stand up when it counted. I hope other leagues and players are taking note and will stand up too. Better late than never, that is for certain.

This is nothing new and I am sure things will remain same as long as people do not get united. I have been saying this for more then a year ago before the elections were due but most League Presidents were too busy to pay attention and depended on their Regional Representative to handle USACA. Many RR never communicated back and the league presidents never questioned their stand at USACA as ling as their region received favors for support. But when time comes your RR was dropped and other was favored to get support. Same dangle the carrots and get the vote system was going on. People only speak when something goes wrong with their region or league. I have seen these things happening for many many years. Thats the reason some RR will support the president as when wrong things happened to their league no one stood up at the board. So when he gets something for his region he will support the regime. This is the reason why these people keep the power in their hands. Everyone raises the voice when something goes wrong with them but there are very few who will raise their voice against injustice no matter what. We hope everyone realize this.

Faizan,  I'm afraid YOU YOURSELF have just become a co-conspirator in the

"thug" culture of the  USACA!  As long as your league continues to pay

membership fees to Baby Doc and his cronies just so you can play in the

so-called "national" tournaments, so players, kids, in your region can play for

the so-called "national" teams, YOU, yes, YOU are just as much to blame!

People may not like to hear this but that's at the root of all the problems with

cricket organiziation in this country.  Mr. Faizan, if you REALLY wanted to reform

USA cricket you would formally announce your league is withdrawing from

the USACA.  You will no longer pay into that...thing.  The players in your

league--adults, women, and kids--ll no longer participate in USACA tournys.  You

will not host USACA events.  You will not attend their meetings. Hard pill to

swallow for some in your league but if people are dying in Syria, Libya, Egypt

to overthrow tyrants the very least the cricket lovers of this country can do to

overthrow the USACA tyranny is to get the USACA out of their lives.

Timmyj51, we won’t solve the problem by disfranchising ourselves. By opting out of the national tourneys, we will only deprive our kids from competitive cricket.  We need to fight the rogue system from within. If a system is partially broken, we should only fix the broken part.  It is not wise to scrap the whole system.

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!  Can't you see that  you're NEVER going to be able to

reform the USACA by "working within the system"?   Dainty's got things so manipulated

this will NEVER succeed.  Only total removal from the monster has any chance of

killing it.  Your attitude is EXACTLY what  keeps Baby Doc and his lackies in power!

Pure and simple. Your kids

have plenty of opportuniities to play competive cricket; just have to take the effort

to organiize it yourself. I, for one, woulnd't want my kids to have anything to do with an organization as bad as the USACA and no decent person would either. What does it say about the USA cricket community when they claim they can't play competitive cricket without a corrupt organization! Said it before, will say it again: anyone who cooperates with

USACA is a co-conspirator in its corruption.
