L.B.W.
A bit of heroics involving the legs which unfortunately result in the batsman getting out. At least you can say you weren't clean bowled.
Last man
The 11th man in! People usually have no expectations from this guy! Unless it is a crunch situation. Then they expect him to rotate strike to the better batsman and somehow hold on to the bat. If a wicket falls now, it is time to pack up.
Late cut
A hit that is executed by a batsman by deflecting the ball in a slicing motion, just before it reaches the wicket keeper or catcher. A certain Gundappa Vishwanath was a great practitioner of this shot.
Late swing
A ball that swings at or past the batsman. Very late in its flight path.
Lawry, Bill
Got him, gone, piss off, you're out. Bill is a channel 9 commentator who is also one of the biggest entertainers in Australia. A one time great opener who played for Australia and Victoria.
Laws of cricket
A tome that is the bible as far as cricket is concerned. Cricket has laws, not mere rules or regulations. Fatter than a constitution of a nice sized country.
Leave the batsman
The ball swings away from the batsman. Often, the batsman is trying to reach for it in vain.
Left arm bowler
A batsman who bats left handed is described as a 'left hand' bat. However, a bowler who bowls the ball with the left hand is called a 'left-arm'(rather than 'left hand'). Go figure!

Leg break
This is what happens to Indian batsmen if they doublecross bookies in Sharjah. More seriously, a ball that is like baseball's "screwball", it breaks into a batsman's body off the bounce, from his "leg" side. It is the stock delivery of a right-handed leg spin bowler. Leg breaks are also known as leggies.
