England will feel deflated -Amit Masram Column
by Amit Masram
Nov 15, 2008
India have defeated a confident England with a overwhelming margin , with Yuvraj Singh single handedly sending the English attack on a leather hunt as England surrendered to a 158 runs defeat .One just gets the feeling that Pieterson’s move to put India in just helped do what they have been good at , put total on the board and defend .

Having said that, the platform was laid by Gambhir and Sehwag who relish each others company .The strip was a batting beauty, with the ball nicely coming on the bat and the outfield grease lightening.

Yuvraj has been out of the test consideration for a while and did not have a good outing in Srilanka as well , played some stunning shots. He was in striking distance to eclipse Mohammad Azharudin’s 20-year-old Indian record for the fastest century (Mohammad Azharuddin's 62-ball ton against New Zealand). The England bowlers bowled on both sides of the wicket and were unable to arrest the flow of runs .Yuvraj would definitely believe that this knock stands in good stead to earn the number six spot in the upcoming test series against , as the selectors will take into account the current form in the ODI series .With Ganguly’s departure from the scene , he has a real chance to grab the opportunity and make it his own .A high percentage of runs were scored on the on side which meant that Yuvraj had the opportunity to get underneath the ball if it was too full and employ the pull shot to good effect if it is short .He set ablaze the Rajkot stadium ablaze with scintillating stroke play , through the injury to give the viewers a one sided contest .England were never in command after they had to been asked to chase at 7.74 runs an over and they caved in easily , with only Pieterson going past fifty and Bopara joining his skipper .Zaheer Khan celebrated his 150th ODI appearance with three wickets .

From a England standpoint , they should hope that Yuvraj’s name is not the in the final eleven list and the pace bowlers strike early .It would be worth watching how Pieterson regroups his men and respond to the challenge.Ravi Bopara at number eight will have to reassessed as he would feel comfortable to bat higher up the order and make useful contribution .The next venue is Indore which might also have run feast , the last time these teams played their in 2006 , India chased down 289 with five balls to spare .India would believe that they have deflated England completely with that margin of victory and would like to build a lead in the series by grabbing game two as well.
