CCA Media Release

Welcome to US National U17 Cricket Tournament. This tournament has become a landmark event in the history of US Cricket as it has opened up doors for many aspiring cricketers who would have otherwise been lost without opportunities within their age group. It has always been a goal of California Cricket Academy to inspire other academies and clubs to initiate grass root efforts. Our efforts have paid off in a big way with many of our players getting selected to US National team in all age groups for International tournaments.

There are several positive aspects of this tournament which sometimes go unnoticed. Players from all over the country have made new friends and they are in contact with each other, youth programs throughout the country have found a goal to work towards and last but not the least, Corporate world and city governments have started taking cricket seriously in many parts of the country.

At CCA, we cannot imagine a year without National tournament and we hope that this tradition is replicated in other parts of the country in near future. We commit to share our experience and support to whoever will come forward to coordinate such tournaments going forward. We want to call upon all the academies and leagues around the country to continue supporting this tournament every year.

While we are happy that we fulfilled our commitment to youth cricketers, no one should underestimate the difficulties and uncertainties associated in organizing a tournament that includes playing games simultaneously at various locations in four days. Every year, we have to convince sponsors, pursue teams for registration, book hotel and grounds, select umpires, train scorers and take care of food and other logistics.

This requires a steady stream of committed volunteers who believe in academy’s mission. We are fortunate that we have found several of them. List of volunteers is too long to print here but I salute those volunteers who are so committed year after year without worrying about whether their child will get opportunity to play or not. They take time off from work and other social commitments and in many cases, cancel their vacations to make this tournament a success.

Kinjal and I want to thank our corporate and individual Sponsors, Lehigh Cement, G1G insurance, Reebok USA, Insight Education for college prep, Dhiren and Anandi Unadkat, Indecomm, Mr. Dinesh Goradia, CraigShelly Jewellery Designs, Pandora, Mr. Kishan and Rekha Patel, Cupertino School district, City of Cupertino Parks and Rrecreation department, Mayor Mark Santoro, Cupertino Chamber of Commerce board member Mr. Mahesh Nihalani, several NCCA and BACA clubs and cricket enthusiasts around the region.
