The Northern California Cricket Association has announced the dates for the 2012 NCCA T20. This year’s tournament is scheduled for Labor Day weekend, September 1-3 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Players from various parts of the country are expected to fly in for this tournament.
The tournament consists of six teams with each team consisting of 14 players. Each team selections its players through an IPL style auction with players assigned a "virtual" dollar value according to the bidding process. Prior to the auction, a select group of players are designated as icon players which teams can grab for a preset price of $1000. All players classified as “representative players” are placed into one bidding pool with a starting bid of $200. All players classified as “club players” are placed into another bidding pool with a starting bid of $100. Each squad has a salary cap of "virtual" $10,000.
The six teams are split into two groups of three. Each team plays two group games. The top two teams in each group then are paired off into semifinals before the winners clash for the final. Last year’s event included live streaming online. The event is also USACA approved. The three day cricket carnival is keenly anticipated by the Bay Area cricket enthusiasts as much as cricket lovers across the nation.
“NCCA T20 tournament is a great platform for all talented cricketers in US to demonstrate their talent,” said Sunil Kumar, NCCA President and Commissioner of the NCCA T20. “Players experience the IPL like culture from the minute they sign up. They experience the auction that is planned to go live. The tournament brings about an excitement that is absolutely any player’s dream. NCCA is proud to be able to help these players live their IPL dream through this tournament.”
