Cricket Canada is pleased to announce the inaugural National Cricket League (NCL) to take place at Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, ON from August 2-11th, 2012. The five team, ten day event will consist of a multi-format 50 over and T20 competition featuring Canada’s top 65 High Performance & Elite cricketers.

Squads contain a balance of the top 21 HP cricketers and 44 Elite cricketers from across the country to ensure both regional representation and multiple national team members in each representative team to form Cricket Canada’s top tier domestic competition.

Amit Joshi, Tournament Director and Cricket Canada 3rd Vice President offered the following statement in support of the NCL:

"Cricket Canada is excited to launch this unique format where our top high performance cricketers mix up with other elite cricketers in the country to play in what will be a highly competitive tournament. We have worked in conjunction with the ICC to ensure appropriated funding for this and future events and it's compliance to an ICC High Performance Program mandate of supporting a sustainable domestic structure in Associate countries such as Canada. The National Cricket League (NCL) will continue to develop and implement a national HP cricket culture into every region of the country and become an integral pathway to our national teams"

ICC High Performance Manager, Richard Done, who oversees the global ICC High Performance Program aimed at improving the competitiveness of the best Associate and Affiliate Members, including Canada, added:

“Implementing a sustainable regional competition that provides a clear pathway towards National selection can only be good for Canadian cricket. In a country the size of Canada it means that the best provincial players from east to west will, for the first time in a consistent National competition, be able to prove themselves against their peers and challenge equally for National Team places. Youngsters with ambition will know that, if they are good enough and perform, they can now move from League to Province to NCL Team and then represent their country at the highest level. I look forward to Cricket Canada’s NCL and the Canadian team going from strength to strength in years to come.”

Matches will be played on turf with live ball-by-ball updates on gocricketgocanada.com courtesy CricHQ.
