The Grand Rapids Cricket Club is hosting a T20 cricket tournament as part of the multi-sport Meijer State Games of Michigan in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Games embody the values of participation, sportsmanship and healthy living among residents of the state of Michigan.
This year’s cricket event will be played in the T20 format from June 22-23 at two locations - Brewer Field in Byron Center, Mich., and Pfizer Cricket Ground in Kalamazoo, Mich. Players from across America and international players from India and Pakistan will be traveling to participate in this year’s premiere eight-team event, which has been sanctioned by USACA.
This will be the third year cricket has been a part of the Meijer State Games of Michigan. The Lions Cricket Club won the tournament in 2011 and 2012, with Azmat XI of Toledo taking the second place in 2012 and the Metro Detroit Cricket Club finishing second in the inaugural year.
Eric Engelbarts, Executive Director of the Meijer State Games of Michigan said, “We are pleased to have cricket back for a third year, as it embodies the values of participation, sportsmanship, and healthy living that the Meijer State Games promotes.”
This is the fourth year of the Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Games. The number of athletic participants has increased every year, with more than 6,000 athletes expected this year. Athletes of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
The Opening Ceremonies for the Meijer State Games will take place at Fifth Third Ballpark at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21.
