The Amwell Valley Cricket Club (AVCC) will host a cricket tournament and fund-raising event this weekend, July 27 and 28, at the Hillsborough Golf and Country Club. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics New Jersey, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Saturday’s events begin at noon when AVCC face off against Mad Dogs of Greenwich, Conn. A charity auction will be running throughout the day, featuring an array of tantalizing prizes, including items from Godiva, Hasbro, Timex, T-fal, Just Born and Starsports US. The event will feature drinks and food, and after the cricket match, live music by the band Satellite Hearts. All are welcome; a $25 donation per family goes directly to the AVCC’s charity of choice.
“We’re thrilled to be supporting Special Olympics New Jersey and the programs they provide,” said AVCC President Alan George. “On Saturday, there will be something for everyone to enjoy, and you may even come away with an understanding of the game of cricket!”
On Sunday at 12 pm, AVCC take on Philly outfit British Officers Cricket Club (BOCC) to round out the tournament.
The Amwell Valley Cricket Club seeks to provide a safe and fun environment for adults and children to learn about and play cricket, and to promote and support the growth of cricket in America. The AVCC grounds are located in the scenic Sourlands at the Hillsborough Golf and Country Club, 146 Wertsville Road, Hillsborough, New Jersey 08844. Once at the country club, simply follow the signs to the grounds.
