USYCA announced that San Diego Cricket Club Youth Academy (SDCCYA) became the organization's newest member on July 24, 2013.

The SDCCYA began five years ago as a Kanga program at a local YMCA, before moving to the leather ball and relocating to the San Diego Cricket Club nets at the Gurudwara.   After training at the San Diego CC for a few years, the academy acquired a field of its own from the City of San Diego and sessions are conducted every Saturday morning at this field.

The program now boasts over twenty youngsters between 6-14 years old.  In SDCCYA's first competitive match, played on July 20, 2013, the San Diego boys lost to a team from Los Angeles, but the coaches were encouraged by what they saw.  A large turnout of over 50 parents and friends were in attendance, and the program expects to schedule more matches, USYCA noted in its release.

SDCCYA's dedicated coaching staff is led by Wayne Copeland and includes Hari Sukumar and Raj Ghai.  Ghai played six ODIs for India in the 1980s.

According to the USYCA news release, SDCCYA sees USYCA's recent alignment with ACF as a step forward, and hoped that the 'ACF - USYCA collaboration will spur the thought to organize the unorganized, and the resulting inventory will provide the database to connect youth teams in geographic vicinities.'

"We couln't be happier to have a growing youth academy like the SDCCYA join us," said USYCA President Jamie Harrison. "With its hard-working, experienced coaches, and excellent location in San Diego, the sky's the limit. Great things are happening with youth cricket in Southern California, and I look for the SDCCYA to lead the way."
