California Cricket Academy’s U-17 team has been invited by South Hampstead Cricket Club, London to play six matches from August 3rd to August 12th, 2013. “CCA hosted MCC in 2010 and we are fortunate that they have reciprocated by arranging team practice at The Lords on August 5th”, CCA noted in an announcement ahead of the tour.

CCA U-17 boys will practice at the Lord's as part of their tour

The CCA team consists of a thirteen member squad, coached by Ajit Tendulkar.  Speaking ahead of the tour, Satsheel Altekar, CCA Team Manager, said: “Ajit is well acquainted with all the players traveling to England.  He is keen observer and evaluator of players strength and weaknesses which will help the CCA team boys immensely."

"There was lot of interest showed by the players and parents to be amongst the team to represent CCA and play in London. Tough decisions were made to narrow down the team to 12 members," Kinjal Buch, President of CCA said.   Vibhav Altekar, a prolific batsman will lead the team which comprises various players who have represented USA and North West region in U15 and U18 level.

The boys have been practicing two to three times a week and playing at least one game a week under the supervision of Dasrath Sankhe, CCA's coach.   The team was counseled on English conditions by the legendary West Indies cricketer Alvin Kallicharran during his visit to CCA in June.  Parent volunteers contributed greatly to make the tour possible.  Melissa Williams helped set up the games and Ajay Athavale took care of hotel and transportation for all the players.  Coach Clint Copeland organized couple of fitness sessions for the boys.

The tour is primarily sponsored by parents, however, several sponsors including Toyota of Stevens Creek, San Jose, Lehigh Cements of Cupertino, Keypoint Credit union and family of Late Sri. Purshttombhai Patel of USA Cricket Academy made monetary contributions.

"It’s been a pleasure to have connected with CCA and to organize their tour to UK in August 2013. I know the clubs here in the UK are looking forward to the games and I am sure that the games will bring lasting friendships between the boys. I am confident that a return trip to USA will not be too far away from us in UK and both sides of the Atlantic have serious intentions of making this a tradition", David Chase, Manager of South Hampstead Cricket Club, said.

The tour games can be followed on CCA's website: calcricket.org and via CCA's Twitter handle: @cca_calcricket.

The team: Akhil A Ghirnikar, Anirudh Srinivas, Aravind Patnam, Mihir A Athavale, Mohak H Buch, Nandan Polisetty, Neil Tagare, Parth Patel, Rohan A Khasgiwala, Gaurav Patankar, Rootvij S Bage, Rutvij M Bhise, Vibhav S Altekar (Team Captain).
