New Jersey's Amwell Valley Cricket Club (AVCC) presented a check for $4,038.05 to Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) at the start of September. The check was received by Diane Paraskevas, Special Olympics New Jersey director of Special Events & Corporate Accounts.
The club has raised over $15,000 for charity over the last three years at the annual charity weekends that it conducts as part of its annual calendar.
This year, the charity weekend was held on July 27 and 28, featured games against Mad Dogs CC and British Officers CC. The charity event included the annual auction, food and drinks as well as live music by Satellite Hearts. The event was held at AVCC's natural turf wicket facility at Hillsborough Golf and Country Club.
Special Olympics New Jersey is a not-for-profit organization that provides sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Our 23,000 athletes enjoy camaraderie and gain a sense of pride and accomplishment through participating in SONJ's events.
The Special Olympics USA Games will be hosted by New Jersey June 14-21, 2014. Nearly 3,500 athletes will compete in 16 Olympic-style team and individual sports, with the support of 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and 70,000 family, friends and spectators.
The Amwell Valley Cricket Club seeks to provide a safe and fun environment for adults and children to learn about and play cricket, and to promote and support the growth of cricket in the United States.
