The New Jersey Soft Ball Cricket League (NJSBCL) has scheduled an American Cricket Federation (ACF) Level 1 Coach Certification & Training Program for this Sunday, June 29. The program is geared toward community cricket enthusiasts and volunteers. The certification program is part of the NJSBCL’s ongoing junior cricket development initiative.

The four-hour program is being held with two convenient individual sessions – 9:00am – 1:00pm and 2:00 – 6pm at the Community Center Woodlot Park, located at 124 New Road, Kendall Park, NJ 08852.

Registrants are asked to pay $40 to offset expenses of the program. However, women are being allowed to register free of charge, in an effort to promote women’s cricket and get more females actively involved in the sport.

You may register online for the program at www.njsbcl.com and under the Admin Page click on the PayPal link, or simply contact the following program volunteers listed below, via email.

The ACF and NJSBCL recognize that coaches are vital to the development and expansion of the sport of cricket. According to Jatin Patel, ACF’s Director of Coaching, “It’s our intention to make cricket a true American sport, and to do so, we are encouraging like-minded cricket enthusiasts to develop the cricket coaching expertise needed at all levels within their communities.” Adding, “The intent is to provide ‘communities of practice’ a theory widely discussed in physical education and sport training in USA. The primary interest behind such a certification is to create and offer more opportunities nationwide to all existing and future coaches, to support cricket and the NJSBCL junior program.”

The American Cricket Federation Coaches Certification and Education programs are managed by the ACF’s Director of Coaching Jatin Patel, in consultation with the National Advisory Panel of experienced coaches. Those awarded with certifications will be able to participate in ACF national/regional programs, as well as competitions such as American Cricket Champions League (ACCL).

According to Avinash Gaje, NJSBCL President, the 2014 NJSBCL program is sponsored by United Healthcare, Group Services, Logic Planet, Inc., Persis Biryani Indian Grill (Hamilton, NJ), PNC Bank, and Innovative Physical Therapy & Fitness Center.
