| Gulu Ezekiel Blog: Tri(al)-series |

The Unitech Tri-series beginning in Sri Lanka on
Monday also features India and South Africa. Coming
just six months before the start of the World Cup, it
provides an opportunity for the team think-tanks to
make some experiments before they decide on their
line-up for the mega-event.
South Africa are led by wicket-keeper Mark Boucher as
both Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis are unfit. They
look the weakest of the three sides.
The hosts are once again favourites. They are coming
out of a 2-0 whitewash of South Africa in the Test
series and are virtually unbeaten at home. They are
being led in ODIs for the first time by star batsman
Mahela Jayawardene.
India look to be Lanka's likely opponents in the final
on August 29. But they have not won an ODI tri-series
since 1998. They were beaten 4-1 by the West Indies in
their last series though they also have the confidence
of beating the Lankans 6-1 at home late last year.
How will the three teams shape up in this crucial
tournament?
