| Blog by Gulu Ezekiel: Are the Windies Back? |

With the Champions Trophy and the World Cup the next
two big events on the cricket calendar, it looks like
the West Indies are peaking at the right time.
Despite their shock loss in the opening match of the
ongoing DLF tri-series in Kuala Lumpur, the fact that
the former world champions are through to the final
even before their final game must rank as a huge
surprise.
Who would have predicted before the tournament that
India and Australia would be fighting it out for the
second berth in the final?
Following their victories against Zimbabwe and then
India at home and despite the fact that even as
defending champions in next month's Champions Trophy
they have to qualify for the tournament proper, it
looks like the Caribbean are shaping up as the
favourites to retain their title next month in India.
India have their work cut out at KL. Theoretically
even if they lose to the Windies on Wednesday, they
still have a chance of reaching the final if they beat
Australia in the final group tie on Friday.
But to do so they would have to win by a whopping
margin in order to sneak through on better run-rate.
Assuming the rain keeps away, that still looks highly
unlikely. So the next two matches are looming as
do-or-die ties for India.
