Sunday evenings can get even the die hard workaholics spin into a spell of emptiness – imagine what it can do to the Indian cricket maniacs when India loses out scripting its own obituary. It sure can be devastatingly depressing.
Well, on this Sunday the impact should be minimal because you will be expecting the expected and the Indian cricketers will convince you that God is an Aussie. Prayers from millions of India supporters (and Aussie baiters) for an Indian victory will go unheeded- not because God is an Aussie but because God knows that beneath the facade of the prayer there's an overwhelming inner voice inside all that says even God cant help India this Sunday. So why would God intervene?
That leaves us all with only demi-gods like Tendulkar and Dravid to put up a divine performance to brighten up the Sunday evening for all their fans.
When India lost the finals of WC 2003 (again on a Sunday), the best anti-depressant was watching the replay of India –Pakistan match and toasting for that win. It worked wonders for all Indian fans and actually made them proud of the team's performance in the WC. This time around there's no good win from the recent past to soothen the nerves, though you can browse thru the Pavilion Shop in this site and order some DVD’s of Indian wins from last season!
On a more serious note, don't lose heart if you are an Indian fan- you had an all-important win in this tournament against England that should inspire Bollywood to do a sequel to Lagaan. So what if SRT failed to deliver. SRK will make up for that in Lagaan II and those three hours will be more value for money than the 42 over Indian innings.
Don’t brood over the defeat- switch on your blackberry, start cranking your emails and get your bearings back for the work on Monday.
Just like Dravid's robotic post match chiming, keep telling yourself that this defeat is behind you and you are looking forward to the SA tour!
