Its a surreal feeling sitting in the luxurious press
box of the PCA stadium in Mohali. Sealed off and
air-conditioned, most of the crowd atmosphere is cut
off. So much so that at times the journos inside
decide to slide open the windows to allow some of the
sound effects into the box.
There were a fair share of roars when India were
batting on Sunday, particularly with Virender Sehwag
and Rahul Dravid scoring half-centuries.
But Dravid appeared to give up the ghost from the
start when the world champs came out in their bid to
reach 250. With the opening bowlers spraying the ball
all over the place from the start, within a few
minutes a sudden deathly hush descended over the
ground. It was as if the crowd was sharing Dravids
pessimism.
The Aussie bowlers on the contrary were in the face of
the Indians from the very first ball. It is obvious by
now that Glenn McGrath has got Sachin Tendulkars
number.
Steve Waughs mental disintegration ploy
appears to be having a delayed effect on the
Indiansit is wearing them down during the reign of
not Waugh, but his successor Ricky Ponting!
