Abhijit Joshi scores back to back half centuries in ICC CLICO U15
Promising Chicago cricketer Abhijit Joshi made back to back 50s even as Americas Development XI faltered in the Guyana leg of the CLICO ICC 50 over cricket championship that got underway at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground in Bourda. For his spectacular performances on tour against strong teams, Abhijit Joshi received a special award of $1000 from Nabeel Ahmed, First Vice President of USACA.
In a low scoring match match against Malaysia, Americas XI were all out for 156 in just 46.5 overs. Off spinner Ahmad Zahid who felled Abhijit proved to be Americas’ nemesis with 3 for 36 from 8.5 overs. Pavithren Nadaesan also impressed after he claimed two for 19 including the prize wicket of Steve Taylor.
In reply, a sputtering Malaysia reached 156 for eight with 20 balls remaining.
Although Malaysia’s opener Faizshul Niazlyn won the Man of the Match honors, it was Americas opener Abhijit Joshi who was the top scorer in this match. His 64 (86 balls) featured ten hits to the fence.
Malaysia captain Keithan Goonasagaram played a captain’s knock in this crucial match and provided much needed support to Faizshul.
In the second match against Pakistan U15, Pakistan beat Americas Development XI by a whopping margin of 293 runs. Pakistan scored a mammoth 416 for 6 off 50 overs. Muhammad Barbar made 165 and two other batsmen made half centuries (Muhammed Naeem 72, Muhammad Nawaz 50).
Although Trevor Manoosingh took 4 wickets, they came at the cost of 103 runs. In reply, an exhausted Americas XI could just manage 123. Once again, Abhijit Joshi had an impressive knock of 70 which formed the backbone of the otherwise forgettable outing.
