The Georgia Supreme Cricket League (GSCL), under its newly elected Administration,
has announced the launching of its Women and Youth cricket programs. In making
this announcement, President Winfield Brome stated that these two new programs
would lead to further development of the league while satisfying a major
requirement for compliance with USACA. Two appointments were made to lead
these programs: Ms. Petula (Petal) Samuels was appointed as Women Coordinator,
while Mr. Jermaine Lindo was appointed as Youth Coordinator.
Ms. Samuels, who hails from Guyana, has been a member of the GSCL for several
years, and was the architect of the first Atlanta Women’s Tournament played here
last year. In accepting the appointment, Ms. Samuels said she was excited about the
opportunity to serve in the role as Coordinator, and gladly accepted the challenge
with her first big goal for the year will be the Second Atlanta Tournament later this
year.
Mr. Lindo also has been a long serving member of the GSCL, and
Tropical Sports Club. The stylish wicketkeeper/batsman has
represented the league in several tournaments, and is one of the
younger generation who has dedicated time and effort to the
betterment of the league. He has been very active in the cricket
planning, and his appointment to this position should bode well
for the youngsters. President Brome stated that he was looking
for the youth program to have a high focus, and believed
Jermaine would bring that along with high energy and enthusiasm.
Atlanta Women's T20 Announced
The 2nd Atlanta Women's T20 Cricket Tournament will take place over Memorial Day Week-end. In making the
announcement, Tournament Coordinator and GSCL Women Coordinator, Petal Samuels said this year’s tournament was a
continuation of living out her dream of developing women’s cricket in Atlanta, in the Southeast Region of United States
of America Cricket Association(USACA), and ultimately in the USA. This tournament has been officially sanctioned by
USACA. Ms. Samuels also indicated that the Atlanta Georgia Cricket Conference (AGCC), Georgia Supreme Cricket
league (GSCL) along with several sponsors, both cooperate and individual, are providing support for this Tournament. So
far seven teams have committed to participate, and both Atlanta Leagues GSCL and AGCC will be instrumental in the
planning, support and execution of the activities surrounding the Tournament.
The tournament will be conducted from May 26-28, 2012 at the McNair 1 & II fields, 2800 Burdette Road, College Park,
