Hurricane Kyle knocks out first day's play at NJ T20 Cricket Challenge
Hillsborough, NJ; September, 28, 2008
A combination of Hurricane Kyle and inaccurate predictions about weekend weather contributed to a total wash-out of the first weekend of play in the DreamCricket organized NJ Twenty-20 tournament.
Despite pushing back the start of the tournament by a day to enable better playing conditions, unexpected morning showers complicated the situation and rendered the grounds unplayable.
Expressing disappointment with the turn of events, Tournament Commissioner Venu Palaparthi remarked, "Despite our best intentions, meticulous contingency planning and hard work, weather and not cricket had the final say in the turn of events."
However, based on the current weather reports, the forecast for next weekend looks good and the organizing team hopes to have better playing conditions for next weekend. With the rain-out, all the teams slated to play today split the points.
The remaining line-up of matches assumes greater importance and sets the stage for an action-packed weekend that would set the stage for the semi-final weekend.
