St. Lucia versus Cavaliers

Casper Davis, St. Vincent and Windward Islands former cricketer, left stranded in the 90's twice this season, finally scores a blazing century to help his team, Cavaliers, annihilate St. Lucia at Marine Park D, on Saturday.

Invited to take first strike after losing the toss, Cavaliers led by an unbeaten 123 by Davis, scored a formidable 281 for five in their allotted 35 overs. The hard hitting Jacob Emmanuel struck 58 and Lester Benn 56 to place Cavaliers in the driver's seat.

Celestine with one wicket for 48 runs from seven overs; Moncherry, one for 50, also from seven overs and Mangal, one for 54 from six, were St. Lucia's main bowlers.

In reply, St. Lucia having lost Charles through injury - struck on the forehead by young Andre Davis, son of the legendary Casper Davis - was rattled out for a paltry 57, unable to negotiate the fine seam bowling produced by a devastating Cavaliers pace attack. Former West Indies pacer Cameron Cuffy was the chief destroyer, with figures of four wickets for 14 runs from five overs, skipper Mark Audain taking two for five from two, Casper and Andre Davis taking one for 14 and one for 25 respectively.

Grenada versus Imperial

Over at Ground C, Imperial sent season rival Grenada packing as the highly anticipated clash went on in fading light.

Batting first, Imperial rallied on a 99-run fourth-wicket partnership between O. Bostic, who made 55 and F. Lewis, 54, to be safely placed on 227 for nine at the end of 35 overs.

Warner, with 29, T. Clarke and O. Mofford getting 20 each, with K. Sylvester making 17, were the other main contributors. Skipper, Kevin George, with two wickets for 30 runs from six overs, Victor Munroe, two for 33 from five, Leroy Peters, two for 52 from seven and Daniel Alexander, one for 29 from seven, were Grenada leading bowlers.

When it was their turn to bat, Grenada, with a few batsmen getting starts but failing to materialize, stuttered all along, as Imperial, always looking in control as failing lights added to Grenada woes, held firmly to win by 61 runs. Reggie Murray top scored for the Spice Isle boys with 36, the skipper continuing to play a firm role, getting 31, Lester Douglas, 23 and Gregory Anthony, 14.

Once again it was the slow left arm bowling of veteran, Kelly Payne, with four for 39 from seven overs that undid the opposition. Warner with two for 14 from two; O. Mofford and O. Bostic, getting a wicket each, complimented Kelly.

Cavaliers will do battle with Imperial on Saturday at Marine Park D, as Scorpian play Punjab at A, with Warriors playing Diplomats at A and Travel Treat playing Panthers at C.

On Sunday, the playoffs get under way as Diplomats play host to Travel Treat at Marine Park A, Imperial hosts, Punjab at Marine Park B, Grenada hosts Panthers at Ground C and St. Lucia hosts Pak Eleven at the famous Sea View Ground in Canarsie.
