After a year-long wait, DreamCricket announced today that it has signed a lease for a 6000 sq. ft. space with playing area measuring 100 feet by 40 feet - making it the largest indoor arena dedicated to cricket in North America.
When DreamCricket.com opened the DreamCricket Pavilion indoor cricket facility in Hillsborough in September 2007, it promised New Jersey's cricketers that it would eventually build an arena in NJ that meets the dimensional requirements for indoor cricket.
According to Indoor Cricket Australia, the playing area for indoor cricket "must be 30 metres in length (98 feet) and 12 metres in width (39.4 feet), with the height being no less than 4 metres (14 feet)."

Under design: DreamCricket's new state-of-the-art indoor cricket facility at Hillsborough, NJ.
After a year-long wait, DreamCricket announced today that it has signed a lease for a 6000 sq. ft. space with playing area measuring 100 feet by 40 feet - making it the largest indoor arena dedicated to cricket in North America. DreamCricket expects to shift to the new space during December.
In addition to being perfect for indoor cricket, the new facility will accommodate four practice nets - three of which will feature Bola Pro bowling machines. Also, the DreamCricket Academy, which opened in the summer will offer year-round junior cricket training and match practice at the new indoor arena.
"Our current facility remains extremely popular for practising indoors, and we will remain open at our current location until we actually move to the new place," Ms. Bayya said noting that the pricing remains unchanged since 2007: "Our batting cages are still the most cost-effective option for cricket at $35 per hour. So if you have 6-7 people in there for an hour, that works out to roughly $5 per person. And with our membership options, the rates are even lower."
Ms. Bayya said that the DreamCricket expects to launch the DreamCricket Indoor Winter League in December as soon as the necessary permits are obtained for the new arena.
Matches will be played on weekdays and weekends with each match lasting 2 hours. Early-bird registrations are being accepted now with 6 teams already signed up even before the announcement.
The teams in the winter league will be play 8-a-side matches with each side batting 16 overs. "As per indoor cricket rules, each side is divided into 4 pairs and each pair must bat 4 overs. A penalty of 5 runs will be imposed for a dismissal but the pair will continue to bat," Ms. Bayya explained. "We will publish a comprehensive rule book on the DreamCricket website," Ms. Bayya added.
"We want to make the sport fun and affordable. Our aim is to make cricket an exciting alternative to going to the gym," Ms. Bayya said. DreamCricket will provide indoor regulation balls for the tournament. Prizes to the tune of $1000 will be awarded in a season-ending finale featuring the top teams.
