Michael Young, who has served as fielding coach for the Indian Premier League’s Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab, plus both the Australian and South African national cricket teams, and is the only American in international cricket, will lead a free youth cricket coaching clinic on August 26. The clinic is co-sponsored by the United States Youth Cricket Association and the Germantown Kids Cricket Club and will take place at Kingsview Middle School, 8909 Kingsview Rd, Germantown, Maryland.

Young, who managed the Bluefield Orioles from 1989-1990 and was a coach for the Rochester Red Wings from 1991-1992, came to Australia in 1981 eventually becoming the State Director of Coaching for baseball. His success coaching Australia’s baseball team in the Olympics led him to be named International Baseball Coach of the Year on multiple occasions before he accepted a position with Cricket Australia in 2000.

Hailed by skipper Adam Gilchrist as the "secret weapon" in Australia's 2003 World Cup win, Young has consistently demonstrated the relationship between fundamental skills in the two sports, which is key if Americans are to be easily drawn toward the playing of cricket.

“I’m looking forward to working with the youngsters and their coaches,” said Young. “It’s really no different than when I work with players at the top of the sport. My job is to ensure that they learn something and stay enthusiastic about their game. Every experience is unique and I cherish each one of them.”

“Germantown Kids Cricket Club is thrilled to invite Mike Young to spend a Sunday morning with our players and coaches,” said Anu Babbar of the GKCC. “Mike’s visit comes at a perfect time for GKCC, which has seen tremendous, continuous growth in membership since starting last year.

“Getting an opportunity to train from one of the world’s top coaches is something GKCC members certainly welcome with open arms and are eagerly looking forward to,” said Babbar.

“USYCA is honored to have a true American cricket hero take time out of his busy schedule to work with the children and their coaches,” said USYCA President Jamie Harrison. “Mike has been a longtime supporter of USYCA, and this clinic is a great opportunity to advance youth cricket in the Maryland-D.C. area.”
