NJ Daredevils relying on youth and talent to take on the best in Radiant Info USA Twenty20

The NJ Daredevils team, captained by Siddharth Mehta, are relying on the trusted formula of youth and talent to stake their claim to the title prize in the Radiant Info USA Twenty20 Cricket Tournament.

The NJ Daredevils team, captained by Siddharth Mehta, are relying on the trusted formula of youth and talent to stake their claim to the title prize in the Radiant Info USA Twenty20 Cricket Tournament. Here’s a sneak preview of the some of the talented individuals that will be making up the team:

Siddharth B. Mehta (26) – Leading from the front, Sid is a left-handed opening batsman and is a chinaman bowler as well. Having trained at the Kiran More Cricket Academy in Baroda at a young age, this cricket prodigy moved to the US when he was 18. He has won multiple individual awards in the bowling and batting categories and some of his personal milestones include hitting 200 in a 40-over game and scoring an unbeaten 144 against the Jamaican national team. He is known for his big-match temperament and has always stored his best for the key matches .

Sid is also famous for the fact that he has led teams to a championship in MCL, CLNJ, GSCL and WCL leagues every year since 2004 – a noteworthy accomplishment by any standards. Will 2009 be the year when he captures the Radiant Info USA Twenty20 title?

Aditya Mishra (28) -  Opening the batting along with his captain, Aditya is a former former first class player who represented Karnataka Ranji Trophy team for the season 2001-2002. He also represented Karnataka state in U-22 and U-19 categories. He is a gifted opening batsman with compact technique and aggressive batting style that makes him a treat to watch when on song. He recently represented the Atlantic Region cricket team in the USA Eastern Conference tournament and also bagged MoM in the first match.
He represents Gymkhana Cricket Club in the CLNJ cricket league and was the highest run scorer last year. He is well aware of the ground and pitch conditions in NJ and looks forward to using this knowledge to carry his team in the Radiant Info USA Twenty20 tournament.
 
Nasir Islam (36) – Nasir, a right-handed run-making machine, played for USA in played in two ICC trophy tournaments: Malaysia in 1997 and Canada in 2001. He also represented US in the West Indies Cricket Board Red Stripe Bowl in Jamaica. He has represented the Atlantic Region in the USA National Tournaments in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and was named the MVP of the ICC Tournament in Argentina 2002.

Nasir currently plays for Virginia CC in the Washington Cricket League where he amassed 702 runs in 2007, inclusive of 4 centuries. He is also a right-arm medium-fast bowler and can be counted on take crucial wickets at any stage of the match.

Saudhan Baxi (28) – Saudhan is a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast medium bowler and currently plays for Virginia CC in the WCL. Like the captain Sid, Saudhan trained in the Kiran More Academy and was part of the Baroda U-16 team & a probable for India U-16. He won the All-India University Cricket League title in 2001-02.

Saudhan was a contracted player for Sahara India in 2003-04. His all-round skills catapulted his team to the Washington Cricket League Champhionship in 2008 and he hopes to the add the Radiant Info USA Twenty20 to the list this year.

 

Chris Vassell (22) – Chris is right-handed middle order batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler. This Jamaican-born youngster represented US U-19 in 2006-07 and currently plays for the Virginia CC in the Washington Cricket League. He played in the Super Cup for St. Elizabeth along with cricket luminaries like Chris Gayle, Jerome Taylor & Wavell Hinds.
