The fourth edition of the National Youth Cricket League (NYCL) began on July 1, 2017 with U12 and U16 competition games in Connecticut, hosted by the New England Youth Cricket Association.
The fourth edition of the National Youth Cricket League (NYCL) began on July 1, 2017 with U12 and U16 competition games in Connecticut, hosted by the New England Youth Cricket Association. Once the Connecticut leg of the tournament ends, the tournament shifts to New Jersey, where the U10, U14 and U18 competition games will be hosted by CricMax Academy and DreamCricket Academy.
Since its launch in 2014, the tournament has been hosted in Dallas (2014), St. Louis and Raleigh (2015) and in Houston and Minneapolis (2016). The 2014 edition of the tournament 18 teams. For 2017, despite scheduling conflicts with two other age-group tournaments, the tournament will feature 45 teams as it continues to grow from strength to strength.
For the fourth year in a row, SG Cricket, the leading cricket brand, has provided tournament balls and prizes for the MVPs in each age category. "I am happy to see a large open format tournament take off for kids. From my vantage point, we are seeing rapid growth in junior cricket and the NYCL is a much needed tournament for our junior cricketers," Chub Bedessee, President of Bedessee Sporting Goods, USA's largest distributor and importer, said.
Eric Parthen, USA Project Manager for the ICC thanked the NYCL for organizing the tournament. In an emailed statement, Parthen wrote: “Thank you for your work to give our future players this opportunity to compete against other top athletes.”
Priya Singh, the coordinator of NYCL expressed thanks to USYCA and to the local hosts – NEYCA, CricMax and DreamCricket for agreeing to host the 2017 event.
