Following torrential rains on Wednesday, the New Inning Foundation NYCL Cricket Championship appeared to be on shaky (and swampy) grounds.
Thanks mainly to tremendous hardword and ingenuity of scores of MYCA volunteers, the tournament is now back on track with four games played on July 2nd and eight games on July 3rd. St. Louis may not have as many cricketers as New Jersey or Florida, but on July 2nd, it showed that it had the cricketing heart to overcome a significant weather interruption. The city's cricketing community came out in force to mop, pump and sponge out water from all grounds. They worked all evening on Wednesday and Thursday to make play possible at Bales and Balwin Parks. And thanks to the ingenuity of the host league, a synthetic turf wicket was created almost overnight at Love Park.

As 200 young cricketers from across the country began pulling, cutting, driving and diving, the crowds witnessed several half-centuries, a five-for, and an amazing hat-trick too. On July 3rd, the tournament also produced an improbable tied-match as the hosts MYCA Vikings tied DreamCricket Academy Warriors after Joshua Kind of MYCA dished out three sixes and a four in the penultimate over of the chase. The match had previously witnessed the batting prowess of Rohan Arvindh, captain of DreamCricket Warriors. He scored a stylish 41 featuring two fours and a six and bowled a 4-1-9-0 spell to put his team in the driving seat until Joshua (56*) proceeded to wreck that plan. Under tournament rules, the tied match was awarded to MYCA as the team with lower number of wickets lost. Karan Patel inflicted two run outs through some sharp fielding and Abhisaar Bhatnagar took a stunning catch at mid-on that he later told the writer "he will remember all his life."
Tournament favorites Triangle Cricket League (TCL) left nothing to chance as they took on MYCA Vikings on July 2nd. Batting for TCL, Atul Iyer scored 42 featuring 3 sixes and a four ably supported by Sanjay Stanley who scored 37 as their team put up 122 for 5 wickets. In the chase, tight spells by Akul Gupta (4-1-6-4), Ash Rai (4-0-11-1), and Abhinav Solasa (4-0-8-1) took the wind out of MYCA's sails and the home team played out their 20 overs eking out just 47 for 7.
In their other game, TCL knocked out the under-strength CAUSA of Atlanta (43 for 9) but were made to play 14.1 overs to score the needed runs. Akul Gupta's spell of 2 wickets for 7 runs and Aditya Gupta's magical spell of 2-1-1-3 book-ended the CAUSA batsmen.
In Group B action, CricMax defeated a strong EYCA team by 19 runs. CricMax scored 126 for 2 thanks to the contributions of Sai Mukkamalla (45*) and Deep Joshi (44*). EYCA got off to a shaky start but Adnesh Tondale (46) gave them some stability and the team ended 19 runs shy of the ask. However, CricMax lost to Dallas Allrounders (DYCL) in their second game by a huge margin. Dallas scored 112 for 6 aided by opener's Praneel Jadhav (52) and Aswin Nair (23*). CricMax ended their chase at 45.
EYCA inflicted a massive 91-run defeat on Bollingbrook Premier League (BPL). Batting first, EYCA scored 141 thanks to Arya Gupta's 65 featuring 4 fours and 4 sixes and Adnesh Tondale's 21. In the chase, BPL crumbled for 50 in 16 overs.
