Upon receiving her first Player of the Match award of the tournament on day two against Argentina, USA Women’s allrounder Sainavi Kambalapalli was asked at the post-match presentation what she hoped to do in the team’s remaining matches. She kept the answer short and to the point: “Win.”

The response was apt for USA’s daily results and their composite performance in the Cayman Islands. They were ruthless once again on Sunday as they defeated Canada in business-like fashion by eight wickets after holding them to 65 before chasing the target in 11 overs to finish an undefeated 6-0 run at the 2026 ICC Americas Women’s T20 World Cup Regional Qualifier.

USA’s victory in the tournament means they have secured the region’s lone berth to advance to the 2027 ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal next January. It will be USA’s third trip consecutive trip to the tournament, though the first time they qualified through on-field performance after having been designated as the Americas representative in 2023 and 2025 when no other country met the criteria to field a team for there to be a regional qualifier. USA joins the top 10 ranked Full Member Women’s countries along with co-hosts Nepal and Associate qualifiers United Arab Emirates from Asia and Samoa from East Asia-Pacific. The two remaining berths in the 16-team event will be decided at the Europe Qualifier and the Africa Qualifier which are due to be completed by the end of 2026.

Perhaps nobody embodied USA’s merciless streak more than Mahek Desai, who took three more wickets to finish with 16 in six matches (four clear of the next best, teammate Saanvi Immadi) at an absurd average of 1.56 and an equally mindboggling economy rate of 1.47 across 17 overs out of which four were maidens.

It was Desai who got the ball rolling back in USA’s direction after Canada chose to bat first and advanced to 25 for 0 after seven overs. Brought on for the eighth over, Desai struck on the final ball of the over to remove Canada’s biggest threat for 12, Harper Chalmers, on a failed charge down the wicket that resulted in the first of three stumpings on the afternoon for wicketkeeper Pooja Ganesh.

Desai struck again in the 10th as Canada U19 captain Rabbjyot Rajput slogged across the line and was bowled for 15 to make it 29 for 2. Desai made it three in consecutive overs at the start of the 12th when Khadeeja Fatima couldn’t negotiate a length ball with extra bounce that popped off the gloves and onward to slip where Maahi Madhavan took a basic catch for 1 to make it 34 for 3.

From there, Canada was effectively out of the game as they crawled through the remaining overs while facing yet more relentless pressure from USA’s spinners. It led to two wickets in the 16th over, the first coming courtesy of a runout as a legside wide from Immadi was chased down by Madhavan running back from slip before firing a relay to Ganesh that found Namrit Dhillon short of her ground attempting to turn two wides into three. Immadi then got her first wicket in the bowler’s column three balls later when Hasini Santhoshkumar couldn’t clear USA captain Chetna Pagydyala at mid-on with a slog into the wind to make it 49 for 5.

With Canada still desperate for runs in the final over, Immadi claimed two more to round out her day as Prakriti Jaiswal was beaten in flight on a charge down the wicket for 6 before Sanjana Rao went in identical fashion on the final ball of the innings without scoring to make it back-to-back players out stumped for Immadi. Vritti Dahiya wound up unbeaten on 19 off 32 balls to top score for Canada, though her innings did not feature any fours and none were scored by Canada after the conclusion of the opening stand between Chalmers and Rajput.

Desai ended the day with 3 for 7 off four overs while Immadi had figures of 3 for 8 off her quota. The opening new-ball duo of Madhavan (0 for 12 off three) and Aditi Kumar (0 for 9 off one) did not return after the end of the Powerplay. Laasya Bandaru was economical for USA with 0 for 4 off two overs while Kambalapalli had a rare wicketless day conceding 0 for 10 off three. Left-arm wristspinner Dhanya Mikkilineni also sent down three overs and ended with 0 for 15.

Entering the day with the tournament runs lead, captain Pagydyala added 16 more in the chase without getting out to finish with 162 runs overall in the tournament. She teamed with Kambalapalli for a 24-run stand to start the USA reply in a partnership dominated by Kambalapalli, who clipped three boundaries through the leg side off Snigdha Malhotra in the second over to remove any doubt as to the eventual outcome. Kambalapalli eventually fell for 15 in the fourth when she picked out Dhillon at deep midwicket, who took a sharp catch to complete a wicket for Dahiya. Anannya Aneesh then lasted 14 balls after entering at No. 3 before she was dismissed for 10 on a miscued drive that picked out Dhillon at extra cover in the ring for a wicket to Shreya Vora.

But those would be the only two bright spots on the day for Canada. Ganesh joined Pagydyala and the pair calmly knocked off the remaining 26 runs for victory. A four pulled behind square leg by Pagydyala off Vora in the ninth was followed by a pull from Ganesh over square leg off Dhillon in the 10th as USA reached the halfway stage of the chase needing one more shot to secure victory. A single by Ganesh levelled the scores on the fifth ball of the 11th before Pagydyala played out a dot to end the over. The winning run came courtesy of a wide down the leg side to Ganesh on what would have been the first legal delivery of the 12th. Ganesh ended 14 not out off 14 balls opposite the captain.

While Pagydyala claimed the award for Best Batter in the event after topping the run charts, Desai walked away with a trio of awards at the post-match and post-tournament presentation. Aside from picking up the Player of the Match Award in the win over Canada, she was also named Best Bowler for her sizable haul of wickets and took him Player of the Series honors as well after edging out Kambalapalli (149 runs and eight wickets) according to the MVP statistical algorithm.

In the day’s other match, Argentina ended their tournament by notching their first win of the event with an eight-wicket victory over the ICC Next Gen squad. After bowling out ICC Next Gen for 81 in 17.2 overs, Argentina chased down the target with 10 balls to spare. Milagros Hagen was named Player of the Match after claiming 4 for 7 off two overs in the field for Argentina.
