USA Women's U19 captain Chetna Pagydyala became the first player at the qualifier to score a half-century and extended her overall tournament scoring lead in the process during USA's win over Argentina.

America’s dominant display in the Cayman Islands had featured no shortage of milestones from their bowlers over the first half of the tournament, but it wasn’t until match four that a batter crossed a traditionally recognized statistical marker as USA Women’s U19 captain Chetna Pagydyala notched the first half-century of the 2026 ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Regional Qualifier in a 130-run win over Argentina by DLS Method on Thursday at Jimmy Powell Cricket Oval. 
 
Pagydyala struck nine boundaries in her 61 off 45 balls to pilot USA to a total of 167 for 3. Due to a 25-minute rain interruption in the first innings followed by an extended innings break after more rain fell in the interval, Argentina was set a revised target of 156 off 18 overs but USA’s bowling attack needed just 14.1 overs to dismiss them for 25 in another ruthless display to take USA to 4-0 with two matches to play. 
 
USA won the toss and chose to bat first under bright sunny skies as Pagydyala and Sainavi Kambalapalli teamed for a 31-run stand that spanned the first three overs of play. Kambalapalli struck two fours in her 15 off 12 balls before she miscued a drive trying to clear mid-on but was caught on the ring by Vicki Lehmann to give Ana Dei Castelli a wicket. 
 
Anannya Aneesh then joined Pagydyala for a 54-run partnership that was dominated by the captain. Four of the five boundaries struck by the left-hander during the stand came against Argentina’s pace bowlers as Pagydyala routinely shuffled across her stumps to pull through square leg. She was fortunate on one such occasion, dropped at backward square leg on 38 in the eighth over, while Aneesh also benefitted from a badly misjudged chance at long-on in the 10^th in which the fielder came in off the boundary only for the ball to land behind and bounce over the rope for four. The stand finally ended when Aneesh tried driving offspinner Rocio Roquel through the wind toward the Pavilion End and was caught by Lehmann at long-on for 15 to make it 85 for 2. 
 
Pagydyala brought up her half-century off 39 balls with a two pulled behind square later in the over. When pace came back on in the form of Daria Mastrangelo in the 12^th, Pagydyala pumped two more boundaries and looked a solid chance of reaching three figures. But Roquel teased Pagydyala into a charge down the wicket in the 13^th and it resulted in a miscued drive to Julia Santos at mid-off to make it 104 for 3. Four balls later, rain stopped play for the first time on the day. 
 
When play resumed, Pooja Ganesh was joined by incoming batter Mahek Desai and the pair took USA through the rest of the innings with an unbroken 63-run partnership. The pair were incredibly efficient as they only allowed seven dot balls combined to be bowled to them across their 7.4 overs together. Ganesh was especially impressive in her unbeaten 36 off 27 balls, scooping Castelli’s pace twice over fine leg for her only two boundaries including on the final ball of the innings. Desai finished 29 not out off 24 balls with her only four also coming against Castelli in the final over. 
 
Castelli finished with 1 for 26 off her four overs. Roquel’s quietly impressive display of offspin resulted in figures of 2 for 28, including Pagydyala for the second time in the tournament. Pace bowler Julia Andujar was the most expensive bowler for Argentina, conceding 0 for 40 despite having the most dot balls for any Argentina bowler on the day with eight out of her 24 deliveries going for no run. 
 
After USA took more than nine overs to secure a wicket in their first encounter against Argentina, it only took them two balls to strike on Thursday afternoon. Maahi Madhavan, who had Mastrangelo dropped first-ball at slip when they played a few days earlier, this time had the Argentina opener bowled for a duck to kick off USA’s merciless display in the field. 
 
At the opposite end, left-armer Aditi Kumar struck in the second when Lehmann was bowled slogging across the line to make it 1 for 2 after nine balls. After a couple of singles across the next few overs, Madhavan turned in a double-wicket maiden in the fifth to reduced Argentina to 7 for 4. Santos slapped a length ball to Pagydyala at mid-on for an easy catch on the first ball of the over before Milagros Hagen was beaten driving and bowled three balls later. 
 
Laasya Bandaru replaced Madhavan in the seventh and struck with her fourth legal delivery, getting Andujar to charge and sky a pull to Hashini Karthikeyan at midwicket in the ring for 1 to make it 12 for 5. Argentina’s next partnership lasted nine runs across 4.3 overs before Desai continued her brilliant tournament with the ball by striking twice in the 12^th. Castelli sliced a catch to Kambalapalli at cover to fall for 6 on the first ball of the over before Roquel top-edged a heave that found Karthikeyan at square leg for her second catch. 
 
Kambalapalli followed Desai with two wickets of her own in the 13^th over. Jacinta Valencia spliced a return catch for 2 to the legspinning allrounder, who waited for it to come down a few yards in front of the umpire, before Anna Reinke was bowled by a googly on her first ball of the tournament to leave Argentina at 24 for 9 after 13. Kambalapalli never got to send down a hat-trick ball however because Madhavan returned to the attack in her place and needed just one more ball to induce Argentina captain Milagros Bestani into a skied heave that found Bandaru in the ring at extra cover to end the match. Having entered at No. 4, Bestani lasted 38 balls as she saw her partners continue to fall opposite her before she became the last player dismissed for 11. 
 
Madhavan ended with figures of 4 for 3 in 3.1 overs. Desai returned 2 for 2 off her three overs while Kambalapalli had 2 for 7 off her two. Kumar finished with 1 for 4 off her two overs bowling the new ball while Bandaru had 1 for 5 off two. One day after taking five wickets, Immadi was USA’s only wicketless bowler as she ended with 0 for 3 off two overs. 
 
In the day’s other match, the ICC Next Gen squad defeated Canada in a Super Over in a match that was also rain-interrupted. Play began after a one-hour delay with the match reduced to 17 overs initially as Canada batted first. Canada’s innings was interrupted by rain, which caused three overs to be shaved off as they eventually finished on 66 for 5. The ICC Next Gen squad were set a revised 14-over target of 70 and looked on course for an easy win in regulation after a 50-run opening partnership between American Palak Chauhan and Brazilian Evelyn Muller. 
 
After Muller was stumped with one ball to go in the 11^th over, American Saanvi Sood hit her first ball for four over square leg and then started off the final over by hitting another boundary through cover to reduce the equation to two runs needed off five balls. But three dots to a crowded infield followed before Sood was runout on the fifth ball. Chauhan then scuffed a single off the final delivery to take the game into a Super Over. 
 
Chauhan and Sood were sent to open the Super Over for ICC Next Gen but Chauhan skied a catch to mid-off against Harper Chalmers on the first ball of the bonus frame. Disha Kaveripakam replaced her and a single was followed by a two and another single by Sood to put Kaveripakam back on strike. The allrounder then blasted a six off Chalmers over wide long-on before running a two on the final ball to give ICC Next Gen a total of 12 runs. 
 
Chalmers then came out to bat and after a two on the first ball, she tried to go big off Kaveripakam but Sood charged in to hold onto a sensational running catch at deep midwicket. Canada U19 captain Rabbjyot Rajput entered and had a wide signaled by the umpires before she pulled her first legal ball through square leg for a boundary. After taking a single on the fourth legal ball, Canada needed five off two with Namrit Dhillon on strike. Rajput bolted as soon as the fifth ball was delivered and Dhillon wound up hitting it straight back to the bowler. Kaveripakam collected the ball and calmly walked to the stumps at the non-striker’s end to knock the bails off with Dhillon five yards short of making her ground to end the match. 
 
All teams have a rest day on Friday before returning to action on Saturday. Argentina face Canada in the morning match at 10 am before USA takes on ICC Next Gen at 2:30 pm.
